You've probably been told countless times, either by your parents or your own dentist, to take care of your teeth on a regular basis if you don't want to lose your smile. While they're not trying to imply that if you don't brush and floss your teeth regularly that you will no longer physically have a smile to show off what they're trying to get across to you is the message that unhealthy teeth and gums can lead to your teeth turning brown or yellow, and thus your smile losing its luster.
Nobody ever wants their teeth to become a brown or yellow color or to have their gums bleed but that's exactly what can happen if you don't listen to your dentist and neglect your oral health needs. However, no matter how many times a day you brush and floss your teeth or how often you visit your family clinic there are some foods and beverages that can turn your teeth a darker shade of color.
The foods and beverages that can stain your teeth include berries, coffee, grape juice, red wine, cola, tea, slushies, popsicles, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, tomato sauce, curry, and beets. While some of the foods we mentioned like beets and berries are good for your health and any good dentist wouldn't recommend you stay away from, there are other foods or beverages like slushies and colas that if you consume less often will have a huge impact on keeping your pearly whites a bright shade of white.
The key to a brighter smile if you don't have the willpower to not drink a coke here and there or eat curry for dinner is to brush your teeth and to brush them often. The sooner you brush your teeth after eating a plate of beets or chugging back a large order of coffee the better off your teeth will be. The less time in between consuming stain-inducing foods or beverages and brushing your teeth the less time there is for the stain-makers to leave their dirty mark.
If you disregard the advice provided to you above and you keep on drinking coffee or pop constantly your smile will only start to wear off and lose its brightness more and more everyday, leaving you with only one option which is to visit a cosmetic dentistry clinic to surgically whiten your teeth. That can cost a bit of money though so why not put the coffee down and pick up the toothbrush so that you are the one that is in charge of maintaining your bright smile?
